In 2004, an economic development study sponsored by UNM and the McCune Charitable Foundation discovered the following:
Four out of every ten dollars that come into Santa Fe from outside the county are directly related to arts and culture.
22 percent of the jobs in the city of Santa Fe are from the arts-and-culture sector.
The impact of arts and culture on the city's economy is six times the national average and twice that of the next ranked city.
There is a shortage of affordable housing in the area. Only 1 in 10 Santa Fe area artists is represented by Santa Fe galleries and there are almost no local, professional venues for them to show and sell their work. Consequently, artists are leaving Santa Fe in alarming numbers.
If enough artists go, what happens to our local economy and the 4 of every 10 dollars creative culture generates?
As a patron, you can do a lot to help local artists continue to create!
1. Donate. Your contribution ensures that the La Tienda Exhibit Space continues to operate. 100% of your contribution goes to the Exhibit Space and its efforts to promote local artists. In addition, 100% of your contribution is tax deductible. To donate, use your paypal account (or create a free one) and click the button to your right. Or, if you prefer, make a check payable to Learning Mind for the LT Exhibit Space and drop it off at either Beyond Borders Books or Eldorado Computer Works at La Tienda. Or, drop a check in the mail. Mail contributions to:

2. Attend art openings and exhibitions. Artists need your emotional and financial support. If you see something you love, buy it! If you can’t afford to buy, come to appreciate!
3. Volunteer. We need your help hanging shows, managing mailing lists, spreading the word, and helping to talk to visitors about the exhibitions.

Our current fundraising goal is to raise $8,000 by February, 2011. We are on our way but we need your help. No contribution is too small. Please help us acheive this goal and make your contribution today. Thank you.
